Darshita Thurairajah



Darshita Thurairajah is an Associate in Selvam LLC in the Corporate Group, including FinTech and Technology, Media and Telecom practices.

DDarshita has advised venture-tech companies, payment-processing companies, blockchain trade-financing companies in commercial, licensing, and cross-border merger and acquisition deals. She has also assisted several FinTech companies, financial institutions and banks in a spectrum of financial services regulatory matters, and worked with companies to develop their data protection policies and compliance frameworks. Recently, she has assisted and advised on some global offerings of equity securities in the capital markets.

Darshita has extensive experience in the payments and e-commerce industry. While earning her Juris Doctor from Singapore Management University, she wrote a Directed Research Paper on liability, cyber-security and risk allocation for card-not-present transactions. Her academic research involved collaborating with commercial banks and financial institutions to gain know-how of financial software and security systems. She also presented her research at a Masters Class in Singapore Management University.

She was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2017.

  • Advised a venture-tech company on a S$60 million cross-border acquisition of an American payment company with its subsidiaries in US, Canada and UK.
  • Advised a bio-technology company on a US$32 million cross-border acquisition of drug product rights from a multinational pharmaceutical company. Also advised the company on the manufacture, distribution and supply of the drug product in 12 countries in APAC.
  • Advised a listed food and beverage company in establishing a joint venture with a Singapore food and beverage company with franchising arrangements in China and Thailand.
  • Advised a listed food and beverage company in establishing a joint venture with a Taiwanese food and beverage company with franchising arrangements in Singapore and China.
  • Assisted a Chinese conglomerate in the proposed acquisition of several educational institutions in Myanmar.

  • Advised JM Financial Limited, Morgan Stanley India Company Private Limited, Axis Capital Limited, Kotak Mahindra Capital Company Limited, Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities (India) Priave Limited, and Bajaj Finance Limited on the sale of Rs 85 billion (US$1.2 billion) of equity shares in Bajaj Finance Limited in a Qualified Institutional Placement in India and concurrent private placements outside India, including a concurrent U.S. private placement (Regulation S and Rule 144A)
  • Assisted in advising JM Financial Limited and Edelweiss Financial Services Limited on the IPO of shares in Prince Pipes Limited (including a Rule 144A offering in the US).
  • Assisted in advising Edelweiss Financial Services Limited and SBI Capital Markets Limited on the proposed offer of shares in an Indian bank in a QIP, including a concurrent U.S. private placement (Rule 144A).
